most suitable type of detection for high condensation areas
#21
For the Hochiki weatherproof heats, I've used standard ip65 adaptable boxes in the past and just put the connections inside and mounted the base directly to the lid, haven't had an issue yet, although these are just under a canopy and aren't being subjected to washing down or high condensation.

Isn't it CPR that specifies that devices must be EN54-23 approved.. A sounder must be a VAD, if it includes a light type element that doesn't comply as a VAD then it isn't a beacon for the purposes as a VAD its just a "visual Indicator" element. If Beacons are needed on site for noise or DDA reasons then they must comply.

I think the key criteria for EN54 compliance is if the visual element is to be used as a 'primary' indicator (I'm not 100% though).

I would go with the Vesda if I had to make the choice.

Sorry to bring a five year old thread up but Marine detectors, what extra approvals do they have?

Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA), Lloyds Register, Wheelmark....those types of approval so that they can be used on offshore applications. Detectors are exactly the same as standard devices though. They are for indoor areas on boats and ships and oilrigs etc.

Thanks wozzer38. Speaking to a customer yesterday who told me he has had the existing conventional smoke detectors replaced with marine type due to condensation issues. So he’s basically wasted his money?

A little further reading and the only difference I have read is that the marine detectors have a fault LED?
